DIY Cannabis-Infused Coconut Butter

The end product, still warm..

A Simple Guide for Personal Use

So you've got some decarbed cannabis and want to try something new? Cannabis-infused coconut butter is incredibly versatile. You can spread it on toast, use it in baking, add it to your coffee, or even eat it straight off the spoon! This recipe is simple, requires minimal equipment, and allows you to control the potency.

Disclaimer: This blog post is for informational and personal use only. Always consume cannabis responsibly and be aware of its effects.

What you'll need:

  • Decarboxylated Cannabis: The amount you use depends on the potency of your cannabis and your desired strength. Start with a small amount, especially if you're new to edibles.

  • Coconut Butter: Choose a high-quality coconut butter. Refined coconut butter will have a milder flavor, while unrefined will have a stronger coconut taste.

  • Double Boiler or Heat-Safe Bowl and Saucepan: For gentle heating.

  • Cheesecloth or Fine-Mesh Strainer: For straining the plant material.

  • Storage Container: An airtight container for storing your finished product.

Instructions:

  1. Prepare your double boiler: Fill the bottom pot with a few inches of water and bring it to a simmer. Place the coconut butter in the top pot or heat-safe bowl.

  2. Melt the coconut butter: Allow the coconut butter to melt completely over the simmering water. Stir occasionally.

  3. Add the decarboxylated cannabis: Once melted, add your decarbed cannabis to the coconut butter. Stir well to combine.

  4. Infuse: Keep the mixture over low heat for 2-4 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer you infuse, the stronger the final product will be. Important: Do not let the water boil or the coconut oil get too hot, as this can affect the quality and potency of your infusion. Keep temps between 160°F-180°F (71°C-82°C).

  5. Strain: Carefully pour the mixture through cheesecloth or a fine-mesh strainer into your storage container. Squeeze the cheesecloth to extract all the infused oil.

  6. Cool and store: Allow the infused coconut butter to cool completely before sealing the container. Store in a cool, dark place. You can also store it in the refrigerator to solidify it.

Tips and Notes:

  • Start low and go slow: Edibles can take a while to kick in. Start with a small amount and wait at least an hour to feel the effects before consuming more.

  • Experiment with flavors: Add vanilla extract, cinnamon, or other spices to your infused coconut butter for extra flavor.

  • Label clearly: Clearly label your container with the date and estimated potency. This is especially important if you have other people in your household.

Enjoy your homemade cannabis-infused coconut butter! Remember to consume responsibly and have fun experimenting with different ways to use it.
